Welcome to Golforelife

Hello friends, and welcome to Golforelife!

I am proud to begin the first of many posts about the game of golf, my life’s journey, and how my infatuation with this incredible game has shaped me into the person I am today.

In addition, I invite others as well to share how the game has influenced their lives, with the hope that this blog will serve as a platform where people can open up about their own peaks and valleys, connect with fellow contributors, and offer support to one another.

I humbly begin by noting that this blog is both a result and a reflection of my personal growth, which includes an evolving understanding of my unique qualities, my strengths and weaknesses, and acquiring the tools to overcome a variety of personal challenges. Throughout this process, I have gained an appreciation for mental health, as well as a better understanding of the role that golf has played in my life. I have recognized the incredible gift of connecting emotionally with others, desire to be seen for who I truly am, and have come to value those who possess strong emotional intelligence; a quality that I have worked hard to achieve for myself.

In addition, I owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to those who have provided me the wisdom, support, and encouragement to challenge myself mentally and emotionally. Like many, overcoming the pernicious stigma of mental health has been challenging. However, today I am a proud advocate, and believe we should invest the same energy and care that we put into our physical selves; whether that be a six month checkup, addressing a particular illness, or “going to the gym” to strengthen our minds.

So whether you are a golf fanatic like myself, a casual player, or have never picked up a club, I extend a hand with the hope that others will join in this pursuit of caring and sharing. It is my hope that this blog, while imperfect, will become a deep source of connection, a place of comfort, a community where people feel encouraged to open up, speak their minds, and share in their love of golf, their lives, and everything in-between. I believe that the beauty of this game is that not only can we play it forever, or forelife, but that it is a reflection of life itself. As the great Bobby Jones once said, “Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots; you get good breaks from bad shots, but you have to play the ball where it lies.”

To conclude, I believe that golf is truly a wonderful game that teaches us a number of lessons about ourselves and others. It shows us how to overcome obstacles, and encourages us to celebrate success. It instills values and principles that can we can carry for the rest if our days. It is a close friend, a worthy opponent, and a true model forelife.
